Looking back on my previous blogs about technology, I see that my attitude towards techonology is mostly good. I think technology can be a great asset in the classroom and can create interest and creativity. Overall, we do rely on technology too much as students. I know I rely on technology for research, papers, communicating with friends, listening to music, spell/grammar check, and so much more. If I think back on my experiences in school however, my teachers didn't integrate technology as much as they could have.
Technology can be used in so many different areas in the classroom and can be very effective if used properly. After class discussions and readings, my views have changed slightly. I feel as though some technology standards are forcing teachers to integrate technology and involving teaching around technology instead of the other way around. There are also technologies that are appropriate in classrooms and those that are intended for entertainment purposes. With so many programs out there, teachers need to research and decide whether certain programs or technologies are appropriate in the classroom.
Overall, I think that most of my posts are very similar. Even though I do have some holdbacks when it comes to technology in the classrooms, most of my thoughts are postive. Technology is an enormous aid in today's society and I think it should be used as often as possible if it is benefiting our learning.

Kera,
ReplyDeleteI have the same sorts of doubts about integrating technology in the classroom. It's hard to know what technology to use and whether it's actually going to be beneficial for our students. I think if you're planning a lesson and a great idea comes to mind about a technology that could really enhance it...then you should totally go for it. I think the pressure to use it just causes teachers to use it ineffectively. We shouldn't force it, but use it when it seems best.

ReplyDeleteI agree with this statement. This is pretty much what I touched upon in my blog. I too feel that since incorporating technology into the classroom is becoming so forced, teachers are not presenting the information properly or too much in place of other, more important subjects. Integrating technology in the classroom is an important thing, but only to a certain extent. I know that when I become a teacher that cannot be my number one priority in my classroom or my students will get deprived of more imporatant information. It is a hard thing for teachers to do, but I think they need to be more aware of the importance of the curriculum and not so much of incorporating technology into the classroom.
I completely agree with what everyone has said about teachers being forced to integrate technology into the classroom. I've always felt that technology can greatly enhance lessons (if used in the correct way) but I too feel that technology can and will be used inappropriately if it's pushed onto teachers as being mandatory. I also feel that if teachers happen to come across something that could be useful for students' learning, then that's great. Otherwise, I feel that teachers really should just be able to put following the curriculum above everything, including technology use.
